Odyssey Overland is about a passion for travel for people who really want to get out there and explore. Everybody at Odyssey lives to travel and share amazing sights and experiences with our expedition members.
Odyssey was started by Pete Deverson 5 years ago when he decided that overlanding as he knew and loved it was in danger of dying with many overland journeys available being more like package holidays, following the best roads, easiest routes and cheapest way to get from A to B. Pete has been overlanding for over 17 years, guiding expeditions in Asia, Europe, Africa and South America, as well as training crew, building nine overland trucks and running operations for an overland company with 23 trucks. Overlanding is his passion.
All of us at Odyssey Overland believe that overlanding is about the journey and the experiences along the way. That every expedition should strive to find new sights and experiences. That overlanding is not a packaged tour with people playing follow the leader and going from one over-exploited site to the other. We also believe that by running extended expeditions we will attract real travellers who are keen to get out and enjoy the journey. We also believe that by taking the rough edges off overland expeditions the experience can be a lot more enjoyable. So at Odyssey we spend more on hotels and campsites, the crew plan the menu and with your help cook up great camp food, we carry the right equipment to make camping comfortable and we travel at a slower pace so as to be able to appreciate the journey.
As Odyssey has grown so we have gained more members of the Odyssey family, and as of 2009 Kirsten Archer who did the London to Australia expedition in 2008 came on board as a co-owner. Kirsten was inspired to go overlanding by her aunt who travelled overland from London to Delhi in 1971 and after getting to Australia overland Kirsten decided that she had found her true calling. Having her on board has allowed Odyssey to expand further and offer even more to our expedition members.
Odyssey crew are a vital part of our expeditions. Many of these crew have been overlanding for many years and are inspired to join Odyssey due to the style of our expeditions and the fact that we run the ultimate expeditions. All crew are trained up in the Odyssey way with many having done a trip with Pete in the past, and you can be confident you will be in good hands. Pete and Kirsten still love to be on the road, so most years they escape the office and run at least one expedition.
